Samuel S.C., Show Pony, Megasoma, Meliponines
at The Camel
Tue Oct 21, 2025
Doors 7 pm, Show 8 pm
Come out for a stacked Tuesday night bill that will get you through the week! Three stellar up-and-coming indie rock Richmond bands are joined by DC’s Samuel S.C., a mid-90’s punk outfit that made a memorable impact on the DIY circuit playing alongside notables of the legendary 1st wave emo and post hardcore era such as Texas is the Reason, Promise Ring, Avail, Frail, and many others. The band reformed in 2021 with renewed purpose, exciting new music and ripping live shows. Representing Richmond, Megasoma brings the garage rock energy, Show Pony features (ex- Punch Button, War Mountains, and One Friend) delivers soaring vocals over 90’s-tinged alt rock, and Meliponines rounds out the show with hooky Epiphone jangle indie pop.

Samuel began in the early 90's in State College, PA as a queer female-fronted punk rock outfit that relentlessly toured the legendary DIY hardcore/punk circuit alongside notables of the time such as Texas is the Reason, Avail, Promise Ring, and dozens more. Born from the ashes of Downing’s previous outfit Junction, Samuel was the flagship band of drummer Eric Astor’s label Art Monk Construction, which produced some of the most revered 7" releases of the era.
An untimely break up in 1995 ensured Samuel’s footprint in a long line of early emo/post hardcore legends would remain small albeit memorable, due to powerful live performances and hooky 7” releases capturing a sound that refused to fall neatly into any punk subgenre. Reformed in 2021 as Samuel S.C. with friendships and chemistry intact, the added S.C. reflecting a new beginning while paying homage to the band’s origins. Today the band is squarely focused on the now, adeptly shedding any dangers of a ‘nostalgic act’ tag and carving out space as a relevant force in contemporary punk music. The latest cycle in SSC’s remarkable lifespan includes the fiery 2-song "Exit Scene 7” on Landland Colportage, released Oct. 2024. More new music is in the works to be released in 2025 and early 2026.

MEGASOMA
Megasoma is a three piece garage indie rock band from Richmond, Virginia. They share a lot of love for Built to Spill, Pavement, and Wilco, spending Wednesday nights catching up with each other in the band room, and playing live as much as they can. They just released their newest EP, "lovingkindness," a kind of wish for more love and friendship for... everyone. They want to put it right into people's ears. They recorded it at White Star Sound, outside Charlottesville, VA, and they are playing songs from it live everywhere they can. They'll probably try to give you a free sticker.
