Laura Ann and Marlysse (Miramar, Bio Ritmo) came together over a shared love of Brazilian music, first crossing paths playing bossa nova. What began as a casual collaboration quickly grew into a vibrant musical partnership rooted in infectious melodies and rhythms. Joined by Brazilian composer and guitarist Bruno Alcalde, they perform original music inspired by the golden era of MPB and bossa nova. Laura Ann—hailed by The Guardian as a “distinctive new voice in jazz”—brings an expressive vocal style that, as Raul de Gama of Latin Jazz Net writes, “makes the listener aware of the emotional import of each lyrical phrase… in her hands this music is like a living thing.” Marlysse Rose Simmons-Argandoña is a first generation Chilean pianist, composer, arranger, band leader and educator who is inspired by her travels and love for music from around the globe, including 20 years with critically acclaimed and celebrated salsa band, Bio Ritmo. A boundary-pushing Brazilian composer, theorist, and guitarist, Bruno Alcalde masterfully bridges the gap between high-level intellectual inquiry and the electric, visceral power of multi-genre performance.

The Maddy Curtis Quartet is quickly becoming a must-see group of Richmond's jazz scene. They perform Maddy's own jazz/sometimes indie originals that harken back to the standards we know and love with a modern twist and earnesty in her lyrics and composition. The quartet consists of Maddy on vocals & ukulele, Jack Byrnes on bass, Quincy Harmon on piano & trumpet, and Stephan LaRue on drums. Critics have described Maddy's performances as "hauntingly beautiful" (DC Metro Theatre Arts) and "soulful beyond her years" (Simon Cowell, American Idol Season 9). And most recently, Necci at Richmond's Auricular described Maddy as "a soulful vocalist who brings a retro-jazz sound that feels like it stepped right out of the World War II era". Maddy's full-length debut album, How are you?, is set to release this spring.

The BeSides are a contemporary Jazz quartet with a love for exploration. With exciting original compositions, spontaneous improvisation, and a deep love for the tradition, the BeSides have been one of the most exciting up and coming groups in Richmond, VA. Composed of Jack Byrnes on bass, Stephan LaRue on drums, and Dan Young on alto saxophone. the BeSides have played at Reveler dozens of times, have performed at the VMFA, Richmond Vegfest, Shockoe sessions live, and have been featured in Style Weekly and Modern Clubman Magazines. Their first album, Suffice To Say, is on streaming now. Their second album, ...And Another Thing, is set to release in 2026.
