Dope Music Village
Dope Music Village
Dope Music Village is a collective of artists from the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia metropolitan area--known locally as "The DMV". Dope Music Village is fronted at the moment by three musicians: Brain Rapp, Nature Boi, and Ezko. The collective was formed to house the work of each individual artist as well as their collaborations with each other. One of the founding principles upon which the collective was formed is the idea that "it takes a village" which, to them, symbolizes the reciprocal relationship between artists and the people who support them. Dope Music Village believes that it takes everyone's participation to have a vibrant and sustaining music and arts culture. The "Dope" is the art, the "Music" is the glue, and the "Village" is the people. An example of the philosophy that underlies their thinking is an art show. An art show features cool paintings that could be described as dope. At the art show there is music playing or maybe there's a featured artist performing; he or she helps set the vibe of the show. At the art show there's people who did no paint any of the pictures or create any of the music, however, they are there to enjoy the first two--this is the village. Without the village, the people, the art show would be an empty room full of awesome paintings and good music with no one to enjoy it. Dope Music Village believes that everyone involved in an art scene is of equal importance and is deserving of respect, regardless of whether they're a famous artist or just someone who likes to catch the occasional show.
