The Richmond, VA band Tarrant is one of the leading lights on the city's burgeoning music scene thanks to their rollicking live shows and a sweetly simmering debut EP, Lazarus. This six-track authentic American roots rock album draws from deep stylistic sources. From contemporary flair to rock Americana, this album leads us into broader, deeper and more adventurous realms, bouyed by soulful Southern rhythms.

Lead singer/guitarist/primary songwriter Jordan Tarrant grew up in Texas and has been writing songs and recording since his teens. After his time at Boston's prestigious Berklee College of Music he moved to Richmond and put together Lazarus. The album was recorded at Virginia Moonwalker, with friend and producer Russell Lacy. This collaboration laid the foundation for the band Tarrant is today.

The band that bears Jordan's surname organically coalesced from the "great players in this town," he enthuses, after he began performing with Lacy in Richmond clubs and through the sessions for Lazarus. First in was guitarist/mandolinist Jared Pool, who honed his skills on the Mid-Atlantic bluegrass festival circuit and studied jazz guitar in college. Drummer Dusty Simmons developed his mighty grooves working as a professional musician since his first weekly bar gig at age 13. Bassist Kai Eason played in funk bands through high school before expanding his range to become adept in numerous styles playing in Virginia clubs.

Rounding out the line-up is auxiliary member Craig Harmon playing Hammond B-3, Wurlitzer and steel guitar as he's done in the studio and onstage with Cracker, Tift Merritt, Joan Osborne, John Doe, Caitlin Cary and others. Craig also contributes southern spice and brilliant story telling.

As a genuine band, everyone adds their creative contributions and touches to Tarrant's wide ranging material and sultry sound. As Richmond.com notes, "The lyrics are up front... rattling off a good story interlaced with some melodic guitar parts here and rockin' grooves there. It's fun, hard driving... pretty at times."

The buzz on the band continues to build in Virginia and beyond as they record their first album with producer/engineer John Morand – known for his work with acts like Cracker, Black Crowes, Camper Van Beethoven, Leftover Salmon, Joan Osborne and others – and slated for release later this year. All signs indicate that Tarrant is making an indelible mark as one of today's most distinctively powerful and gripping country bands.
